Chapter 1. Speaking dreams: how to build tomorrow’s dream

Have you ever wanted something so beautiful you’re sure it only exists in the limits of your own mind?  Yea? Same. I’m a dreamer through and through, and I literally carve time out of my day to listen to music and let my mind run wild with the what-ifs.  Everything from living with a full-sized industrial pasta maker, to throwing dinner parties in my extravagant penthouse with $1,000 bottles of wine, to winning Chopped & making the Forbes 30 under 30 list.

In a world that bombards us with a million terrifying what-if’s, I’m convinced that my daily dreaming over the years has crafted my overall mindset and personality.  Opening doors in our minds to beautiful possibilities can change our lifestyle choices to believing we can have/create. I think it’s easy to keep my biggest dreams closest to my heart, a byproduct of fearing that my dreams won’t come true and people will know.  Somewhere in my adolescence, someone (definitely my mom) kept telling me that all my ideas were great (she is an optimist, for sure). Truly being encouraged by others’ words keeps us subconsciously believing in ourselves. So, encourage each other’s dreams, and know that when you do, you’re saying ‘I believe in your desires and they are worth something.  You are worth something’.

Sometimes we feel like we don’t have the time, but there’s always time for the desires of our hearts (hello, quarantine). What comes next in life directly depends on what you say it does.  Our words have power, things don’t just happen, we have to say they do.

So when you’re down and out, take a minute, dream up your wildest dreams...then say it out loud; speak life over it, encourage your own dreams.

Some days I’m still scared to say my dreams out loud. I muster up the courage and whisper them to myself until my courage strengthens...and then I scream my dreams to my roommate across the hall.  Haha. That is the beginning of my next dream in motion.

My current dream list:

  • Become a professional salsa dancer.

  • Book more jobs as a neck and lip model

  • Buy an elaborate dining room table that seats 15 people & cook my heart out

  • Build something that encourages people every day even if I’m not directly speaking to each person...oh wait.  Hi Food & Courage ;)

Special thanks to all you darlings who listen to my beautiful dreams in their ratchet phase; you know who you are.

So my dreamers, what are you dreaming of?  Tell us, here at Food & Courage. We want to encourage you — it’s what we do!

Xoxo,

Rachel
